Cats often choose to play with their food by batting around a toy mouse. If you have a bored cat that insists on playing with your expensive pair of shoes instead of your shoelaces, then it’s time to build the perfect chew toy!
This tutorial will guide you step-by-step through how to make a chew toy for your cat using everyday household items:
1) Cut the roll into two halves 2) Take one half and put in between two cereal boxes 3) Take the other half and place it inside of the first box 4) Put cereal boxes together 5) Add tape 6) Add string 7) Put string through hole 8) Tie string tightly 9) Put string in thumbtack 10) Place thumbtack in center of box 11) Place all three boxes on top 12) Fill box with dry beans 13)”>Finally, add some
Wrap one of the strips around the other roll
Now that both rolls are wrapped, you can cut off any excess by cutting through the center of the roll. All that’s left to do is to attach two pieces of ribbon or string so your cat has something to hold onto, and the toy is complete!
The key to making a great chew toy is buying items that are inexpensive and readily available. So if you have an old t-shirt lying around with some spare fabric, then whip up a few toys for your furry friend! Not only will your cat be entertained–your favorite shoes will be safe from being chewed up too!
Tie off the ends with strong string
First, gather your materials. You’ll need some string or yarn, a paper plate, a cup of water, and an old sock.
Now it’s time to get started! Cut open the top side of the paper plate so that it’s now flat. In order for this chew toy to work best, you’ll want to cut off the handle from the sock and tie it into a knot with one end of the string.
Next, fill your cup with water and place it in the center of the paper plate.
Now take your worn-out sock and soak it in the water until it’s soaked through. Take one end of your string and tie a knot around one of the corners from one side of the paper plate to create a loop for your cat to grab onto when playing with their new chew toy. Bring both ends under the opposite side of the paper plate and make another loop on that side. Repeat this process on each corner from both sides of the paper plate until you have four loops on each corner with approximately five inches or more left at each end without any knots at all. Finally, take one end from each loop and tie them together tightly in a knot with about six inches left on each end
Add a bell at each end to make it noisy
Cats love to play with sounds, so this simple modification will help keep your cat entertained.
Cut the plastic bottle in half lengthwise along the seam.
Fill one of the halves with uncooked rice or beans, seal it up, and place it inside the other half of the plastic bottle.
Add two small bells to each end of the toy. Be sure to attach them securely so they don’t fall off while your cat is playing.
Finally, tie a long piece of string to each end of the chew toy and you’re finished!
Now all you have to do is watch your bored kitty pounce on her new toy!
Place catnip inside as a bonus!
Some people choose to add catnip to the fabric. Catnip is a herb that your pet will find irresistible. It’s a natural way for cats to stimulate their hunting instincts and it’ll make them more likely to attack this toy while playing with it.
Catnip is a wonderful, natural way to keep your pet entertained while reducing the risk of expensive items being harmed in your home.
Catnip as a bonus.
One of the most popular cat chew toys is the crinkle ball. This toy is made from a t-shirt, some cardboard, stuffing, and catnip. When your cat bats this toy around it makes noise and produces a satisfying crunching sound which will keep them entertained for hours.
But here’s the best part: You can also use an old t-shirt to make a softer woolen mouse with the addition of some yarn for whiskers! This toy is perfect if you have a dog in your household that loves catching mice (and thinks they’re toys).
Both toys are easy to make, budget-friendly, and sure to be loved by your furry friend. Hopefully these tutorials will help you find the perfect way to keep your pet entertained without having to replace their favorite belongings!
